Dylusions excitement

Earlier in the month Art from the Heart had a 10th birthday celebration with a blog hop and a birthday weekend.  Sadly I couldn't get up to Harrogate for the celebrations but I did take part in the blog hop.  You can read my contribution here.

As part of the celebration we were invited to put a party invitation on to our blogs and send an email to Ben to say that we had done so.  All the names were put into a hat and my name came out.  Whoop whoop.

The official prize was a set of Dylusions stamps of my choice.  However I own rather a lot of them already so I was very cheeky and asked if I could possibly (pretty please) have the new set of spray inks instead.    And the man from Delmonte, sorry AFTH, he say YES!

So thank you very much Ben and Dyan, I really appreciate it.

The inks arrived while I was away so have only just found some time to play.  I sprayed all the inks except the black randomly over the page.  Dried it off, sprayed with water and then with ink again.

Then I sprayed through some masks.

Here are the different colours

And here's as far as I've got.  I sprayed the black through the alphabet stencil.
I haven't decided yet what I am going to do with this background.   Come back tomorrow and see if I've finished it.

Pass the book

I have various people's blogs on Google Reader and Julie Kirk's 'making notes on paper' is one of them.

A few posts ago she offered the book 'Art Saves' through the Pass the Book scheme.  You can read all about Pass the Book here.

So I entered to receive it, and Mr Random Generator chose me.   Woohoo!  :)  So I get to read the book for a month and then pass it on.

Keep coming back to my blog to see when I'm ready to pass it on and you will be able to have the opportunity to read this book by leaving a comment.

25 years

I have spent today making a travel journal for my trip to the States next month.  You can see it here.

Whilst I've been assembling it I've been contemplating where the last 25 years has gone.  Here's a photo from this day in 1986.

The photo makes us look as though we had the plague ~ but we didn't honestly!  It's been on display for 25 years and has not stood the test of time.

And here's the baby in 2011.  This was taken in Las Vegas when we took a road trip with Andy and his wife Naomi.

Here's to the next 25 years!

10 on the 10th

I almost missed this.  I had forgotten what date it was but fortunately my friend Pippa reminded me.

I thought I would share 10 scrapbooking layouts with you.  You may have seen one or two before.  I belong to a scrapbooking kit club called Scrapbooking from the Inside Out.   Each month there are challenges on a particular theme. Some of the layouts have hidden journaling.

Art from the Heart Birthday Blog project

It’s a privilege to be part of the AFTH’s birthday blog.  You will get back to my blog hop post from the Dylusions team hop. If you haven't hopped then you need to start at Dyan's blog.

I love using Dylusions products.  If you haven’t encountered them before there are stamps, spray inks and acrylic paints.  I opted for the Dylusions team for the blog and if you scroll down through my blog you will find other posts about using these products.

I decided I would make a minibook as my Dylusions project.   I sprayed Dylusions inks onto an A1 sheet of watercolour paper on both sides and then randomly sprayed through sequin waste.  I used Warm Leather, Velvet, Cyan, Aubergine and Lime.

When the paper had dried I cut it up into 12” x 5” pieces. I finished up with 8 pieces and some odd bits left over.

Using a scoring board I scored at the “2, 6” and 10” mark on 4 of the pieces and at 4” and 8” on the other 4 pieces and then folded.  I put the folded pages into pairs.

Using the Dylusions stamp sets: Around the Edge, How does your garden grow and Further round the edge I stamped randomly on the pages.

I cut one of the spare pieces of paper down to 4½” x 3½” and then ran it through the Cuttlebug in a Tim Holtz embossing folder.   I then highlighted some of the raised parts with Dylusions White and Turquoise acrylic paints.I cut 4 of the other spare pieces down to 5” x 3” and folded these in half.  And on the last piece of spare paper stamped some journaling tags from the Write between the lines set and cut them out.

The last thing to do before assembling was to stamp quotes on some of the pages using Quintessential Quotes, The right words and Say what you mean.

Assembling the book.
I made signatures with 2 of the large folded pieces and one small piece and sewed each signature together.

Then holding the 4 signatures together I wove embroidery thread through the stitches in the signatures.
And then added charms to the long threads left from sewing the signatures.  And added the embossed paper onto the front cover to complete the book.

Opening on Monday

The countdown has begun.

The WhollyCreative Etsy shop will open for business on Monday 5th September.

WhollyCreative can be found on Facebook and on Etsy

September 1st

It's amazing where the year has gone!  The shops are putting out their Christmas displays and we haven't had Autumn yet.  I don't allow myself to think about Christmas until after Andy's birthday on September 19th.  However this year I was really organised about his birthday as friends were travelling to Australia and have taken his present with them!  So I could possibly start thinking about the end of the year.

Today is the first day of Learn Something New Every Day and 30 Days of Lists.  One of the things I've learned today, yet again, is that I really do sign myself up to too many things.  So I'm afraid 30 Days of Lists may well fall by the wayside.

I've had a day off today from preparing for the launch of Wholly Creative.  In my mind, September 1st was going to be launch day but it's tomorrow now.

I thought that today I would finish all my August challenge layouts for Scrapbooking From the Inside Out and here is my last one.

On Saturday I am taking part in the Art From the Heart blog hop which will start on Dyan's blog.   I've completed my post for that so come back on Saturday to take part.
